Private health insurer Bupa set to repay millions over incorrectly rejected claims

Bupa has reached an agreement with the ACCC on a proposed penalty of $35 million for incorrectly assessing thousands of mixed-coverage claims from 2018 until 2023.
Bupa managing director of health insurance in Australia, Kate Williams, told Tom Elliott they have been “compensating” those effected, including interest and good will payments.
“It occurred as a result of inconsistent instructions, training and guidance for our people, which meant our systems automatically rejected the claims,” she said on 3AW Mornings.
