‘Really tough’: Matt Owies opens up on the end of his time at Carlton

West Coast Eagles small forward Matt Owies has opened up the “really tough” time he had during his final season with Carlton last year.

Owies was told to look elsewhere by the Blues, which led to him getting picked up by the Eagles, and said the uncertainty surrounding his contract led to him feeling like he didn’t belong.

“I thought I was doing my role for the team, and doing it quite well,” Owies said on 3AW Football.

“As any player or any sportsperson, you just want to belong.

“When that contract wasn’t coming, sometimes you can feel like you don’t belong.”
