Mark Robinson believes Melbourne choked against West Coast on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles smashed the Dees by 66 points in Saturday’s preliminary final and the Herald Sun footy writer told Sunday Sport his definition of choking wasn’t whether a team entered the game as favourites or not.

“They didn’t handle the occasion,” Robbo said.

“It wasn’t extreme heat from West Coast – they didn’t handle the occasion and didn’t come to play.”

Jimmy Bartel said while it wasn’t a choke, he thought Melbourne were “spooked” by the atmosphere at Optus Stadium.

“I don’t feel that comfortable calling it a choke considering where Melbourne have come from the year,” he said.

“They weren’t favourites going into that game.”
