RUMOUR FILE: Melton City Council candidate under investigation over photos posted on Facebook
UPDATE: A council hopeful who allowed his baby son to pose for photos with guns and ammunition says the photos have been made public in an attempt to discredit him and his culture.
Dilpreet Singh, who is running for Melton City Council, has told 3AW the pictures were taken by family and friends while in India and uploaded to his personal Facebook page.
He said the images were acceptable in his culture because boys were encouraged to join the army or police.
Victoria Police has confirmed it’s investigating the story first revealed on 3AW Breakfast’s Rumour File.
Local Government Minister Natalie Hutchins said she contacted police when she became aware of the images.
‘I was pretty outraged by those photos and we acted on it pretty quickly,’ she said.
