Sam McClure’s strong comments on the AFL fixture after ‘horrible’ Thursday night match

Sam McClure had some strong comments to make on the AFL fixture after what he described as a “pretty horrible” match between Carlton and Brisbane on Thursday night.

The journalist has called for the AFL to be “more flexible” with its fixturing, after he broke the story of the league considering a ‘mid-season tournament’ in the future.

“If and when Tasmania comes into the competition in 2028, the fixture is not going to look like what it does now,” McClure said on Wide World of Sports.

“It’s a billion dollar industry, we need to be more flexible with our fixturing.

“We have to start planning for the now, how to we keep people as interested as possible?”
