Sam Mitchell’s high praise for Collingwood’s Grand Final performance

Sam Mitchell has lauded Collingwood’s pressure in the Grand Final as he prepares to return home to Victoria after two years at West Coast.

The 36-year old returns to Hawthorn after spending two years at the premiers – one as a player and another as an assistant – to take up the role after he left the Hawks at the end of the 2016 season.

But before linking up with his old coach Alastair Clarkson, Mitchell praised the Pies’ performance on Grand Final day.

“It was a strange old game and actually good to watch,” he said.

“I’ve enjoyed watching the game back and realising what we were talking about in the coach’s box compared to what was happening in the game.

“Collingwood’s pressure was outstanding for the majority of the day, particularly in the first quarter where they capitalised on every shot they had.

“I thought the Eagles deserved to win in the end.”
