The first modern Anzac Day clash between Collingwood and Essendon certainly laid the foundations for the blockbuster it would go on to become.

It was a dramatic draw, with thousands of fans locked outside of the MCG as 94,825 crammed into the ground.

It remains the second highest ever home and away attendance on record.

Saverio Rocca was the star of the show that day, booting nine goals, including the major that tied things up in the dying stages of the game.
