Study finds only 6% of young Aussies are optimistic about their financial future

Jacqui Felgate

A recent study has revealed deep pessimism in Australia’s youth.

The study by accounting firm Deloitte found that only 6% of young Australians believe they will be more financially secure than their parents.

Youth governor Amanda Gailiss told Tom Elliott the job market is extremely competitive.

‘Often young people are taking lots of unpaid internships to get experience, and I think that is exploiting the fact that they need to get an edge,’ she said.

Ms Gailiss said paying potential employees as interns is an investment in them staying in the company and being productive employees in the future.

She also said sizeable HECS debts contribute to the negative outlook.
