The comment that ‘pricked the ears’ of Matthew Lloyd

Matthew Lloyd and Jimmy Bartel hold grave fears for the Gold Coast’s ability to keep Tom Lynch beyond next season.

Lloyd said a recent comment from Lynch’s management about assessing the Gold Coast’s form after 11 rounds caught his attention.

“It really pricked my ears,” he said on 3AW.

Why? The Suns have a woeful away record – 12 wins and 65 losses – since joining the AFL.

They won’t play at home next season until after round 10 because of the Commonwealth Games.

Dwayne Russell asked whether Victorian clubs should get proactive and package something together for the Suns now.

“You’d throw it out there, wouldn’t you?” Jimmy Bartel said.

But Lloyd said he couldn’t see the Suns winning any trade for Lynch and that the club should back itself in to keep him under new coach Stuart Dew.
