Essendon paid up big for North Melbourne defender Ben McKay in the off-season.

And there were some comments which Brad Scott made on 3AW’s Wide World of Sports during the week which Leigh Matthews found “interesting”.

It led Matthews to state how “extremely important” key defenders are to a side.
