Matthew Lloyd says Geelong and Sydney should take note of what happened with GWS captain Phil Davis in 2019 before selecting either Max Holmes and Sam Reid for Saturday’s grand final.

Both players suffered injuries at the weekend and are under serious clouds heading into the biggest game of the season.

Speaking on 3AW, Lloyd issued a word of warning about playing underdone players when it matters most.

“They have to go hard at Reid and Holmes on Thursday, you would have thought, and if they rip their hamstring, quad, groin, whatever – so bet it – but you can’t take injured players into a grand final.”
