The selection ‘surprise’ that may have been Collingwood defensive duo’s downfall
Matthew Richardson admits he was surprised Collingwood didn’t start Jack Madgen against Richmond on Saturday.
It comes amid criticism of Darcy Moore and Jeremy Howe for their efforts against Tom Lynch and Jack Riewoldt.
Moore and Howe have been criticised for playing too loosely on the Tiger forwards, but Richardson said he wouldn’t be shocked if vision showed the pair played that way most weeks.
He said selection may have also been an issue.
“I was surprised Madgen was the sub,” Richardson said on 3AW.
“I would have thought he goes to (Jack) Riewoldt and then Jeremy Howe can be that intercept player, but they didn’t do that.”
