Police have confirmed no further arrests have been made overnight after a 14-year-old was arrested yesterday.

Commander from the North-West Metro region, Mark Galliott, says they do know who the other alleged offenders are.

“It won’t be long before they’re in custody,” he told Neil Mitchell.

He also confirmed there is a youth gang crisis in Victoria.

“We’ve been talking about youth gangs for the last five years.” he said.

Member of the youth parole system, and chief executive officer for Multicultural Youth, Carmel Guerra, says the current approach to interacting with youth gang members needs to change.

“We’ve been speaking to families, communities and young people involved, lots of us are concerned about to what do … We need to try to different things … Obviously what we’ve been trying hasn’t been working,” she said.
