‘They can deal with them as they see fit’: Energy Minister leaves unwanted fridges in the hands of business owners

Energy Minister Lily D’Ambrosio says business owners will be left to deal with unwanted fridges which were delivered as part of a bungled scheme.

It comes after Tom Elliott revealed some businesses had been inundated with up to 20 unwanted fridges from those looking to exploit the program, part of the Victorian Energy Upgrades scheme, which provides carbon credits for the installation of free fridges.

Part of the scheme has now been suspended while the Essential Services Commission completes a review, with the minister remaining tight-lipped on whether the state government would assist in the removal of unwanted fridges.

“These are risks some businesses have decided to take,” Ms D’Ambrosio told Heidi Murphy on 3AW Drive.

“That fact is that there’s been a review of this activity for some time, the evidence though, came to a head last week when we had those reports of really bad behaviour.

“They on these, so they can deal with them as they see fit.”
