THE LETHAL INJECTION

Leigh Matthews doesn’t think Luke Hodge should be the blueprint for struggling clubs.

Brendon Goddard’s future is up in the air after Essendon decided not to renew his contract for 2019, and it’s led to a lot of speculation that lower-ranked clubs could use his experience in the way Brisbane has used Hodge in 2018.

But Lethal told 3AW Football he thinks most players couldn’t do what Hodge has done.

“Luke Hodge is an exception to the rule,” he said.

“The ability to be an on-field coach and still play your own role, it is not an easy role to play.”

Leigh also said he doesn’t think giving lower-ranked clubs priority access to the WAFL and SANFL would be effective just because Tim Kelly has been so good this year.

The third exception was… a little more left field!

“It’s about the first contribution you’ve ever made that hasn’t had a fundamental logic underpinning it,” Tim Lane said.
