Tom Elliott says the ‘solution’ to drug deaths is simple
Tom Elliott says the two deaths at a weekend music festival due to suspected drug-related incidents were entirely preventable.
However, his opinion is an “unfashionable” one.
“The solution to the problem is quite simple – don’t take drugs and you won’t have an overdose,” he said.
“I know it’s an unfashionable opinion, that one, but one I think is true.”
Greens leader Richard Di Natale said that opinion may be right, but it didn’t matter.
“It doesn’t matter what you or I might say about it, and I think we both agree that if people are to be safe then the safest way is to not take a substance, or pill,” he said.
“But it doesn’t matter what we say, what the premier says, what the prime minster says, people are going to continue to do it.
“The question for us is should they have to pay for it with their life? That’s the question.
“I think the answer to that is a resounding no.
“We know that pill testing, where it’s been introduced, has saved people’s lives.”
