Why a Collingwood great finds the De Goey sanction ‘really interesting’
Collingwood great Tony Shaw says his former club has given itself ‘an out’ by suspending Jordan De Goey for an ‘indefinite’ period of time.
The Magpie youngster will also fork out $20,000 – a $10,000 fine and $10,000 donation to charity – after he was caught drink-driving at the weekend.
Collingwood came down heavily on De Goey on Monday, who has also agreed to not drink alcohol until the end of the season.
Shaw, who captained the club to a premiership in 1990, told Tom Elliott he found the “indefinite” part “really interesting”.
“If it was during the season I think the club would have suspended him for 4-6 weeks,” Shaw said.
“Will he play in the first 4-6 games?
“The indefinite bit gives you a little bit of an out.”
