Tony Shaw’s solution to umpire contact — without a rule change

Umpire contact has caused a bit of confusion this week.

Ed Curnow has been suspended for Round 9 after making contact with an umpire, while his brother Charlie and Sun Steven May were fined.

Cat forward Tom Hawkins missed Round 8 for the same reason.

And Tony Shaw has an idea on how it can be cleared up.

Shawry told 3AW Football the problem could disappear if umpires focus on their positioning.

“It can be cured without any rule changes,” he said.
