With thanks to our good friends at VicSuper, here’s the latest Trade Wrap Headlines and Podcast

Dylan Shiel chooses Essendon

GWS midfielder Dylan Shiel has shocked the footy world and requested a trade to Essendon.

Carlton and Hawthorn were thought to be front-runners but the Dons have seemingly won the race to secure his services.

Newsbreaker Mitch Cleary told Trade Wrap Shiel, who is set to sign a six or seven-year deal in the coming weeks, chose future success over money.

“His decision is all about playing in a premiership,” he said.

“He’s been through the rebuild at the Giants once before and he doesn’t want to do it again.”

Blues set to turn attention to McGovern

Carlton’s attention now turns to securing the services of Mitch McGovern, who has requested a trade to the Blues from Adelaide.

Mitch Cleary outlined how the deal may get done.

“The Crows are likely to be pick up Carlton’s pick 25 and 27 (in the deal), as well as rights to pre-selected mature-age player Shane McAdam and a late swap of picks,” he said.

Harley Bennell being pushed out by Fremantle

Fremantle midfielder Harley Bennell is reportedly being pushed out by the Dockers, despite having a year to run on his contract.

The injury-plagued 26-year-old hasn’t played senior football since Round 23, 2017 and new GM of Football Peter Bell is seemingly intent on pushing him out the door.

Cleary said his career maybe be over.

“The Bennell contract extension was done before Bell took the reigns,” he said.

Shane McInnes said he was “stunned” to see the Dockers hand him a one-year extended contract.

“I can’t see one coach wanting him at their club,” he said.
