What to expect from today’s ‘difficult’ Victorian budget
Victorians will today learn how the state will pay down its record debt, as Treasurer Tim Pallas prepares to hand down his ninth state budget.
Mr Pallas has already warned it will be a “difficult” budget, but just one measure being revealed in the lead up to today — an increase to the WorkCover premium.
Partner at Pitcher Partners, Craig Whatman, says “the leak is the focus is going to be on business”.

“Whether that’s a new tax or whether that’s changes to existing taxes … we’ll have to wait and see,” he told Ross and Russel.
Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan has refused to rule out new or increased taxes or fees.
But has assured “hard working Victorian families” won’t bear the brunt of the budget.
