An English firefighter with a history of staring down governments attempting to enforce budget cuts has reportedly been chosen to head the MFB.

The appointment hasn’t been announced by the MFB nor the Andrews Government.

Instead, Dan Stephens has been outed at the new CEO by a local newspaper in Liverpoool, England.

It was discovered by the 3AW Breakfast 3AW News teams on Wednesday.

The Liverpool Echo has revealed the Mersyside’s most senior firefighter has quit to move to Australia.

He is described as being a very vocal opponent to government attempts to close fire stations in the region.

He’s tipped to take over as MFB chief executive officer after what’s been a tumultuous year for the organisation.
