Umpire contact has been a topic of conversation recently and the conversation sparked up again after an incident during Friday night’s match between Carlton and Brisbane.

AFL Head of Officiating Steven McBurney joined 3AW Football and was asked about Thursday night’s controversial umpire collision.

“The umpire was caught in a position where the ball was kicked straight to him,” McBurney said on 3AW Football.

“Those things are going to happen from time to time.”

“We need to make sure that doesn’t happen and we minimise it as much as possible.”
