Victorian government set to build new quarantine facility
The Victorian Government says it is likely to build a new quarantine facility outside of Melbourne’s CBD to combat the “hyper-infectious” UK strain of COVID-19.
It’s looking at the Howard Springs facility in Darwin as inspiration.
Daniel Andrews said a “senior group of officials” was examining the matter.
He flagged Avalon Airport and Melbourne Airport as “standout” candidates for possible locations.
Tom Elliott spoke with the president of the Australian Medical Association in the Northern Territory to find out what made the Howard Springs quarantine facility so effective.
Dr Rob Parker said there were a number of factors.
“The advantage of it is that you can divide it into sections,” he said.
