Victoria Police Chief Commissioner Shane Patton says protesters in the CBD are “intending of being in conflict” with officials.

Pro-Palestine rallies have been held in the city in recent weeks, the most recent occurring on Monday as part of a global demonstration.

The state’s top cop said he has noticed protesters are starting to wear ski goggles to try and evade the effects of pepper spray.

“We have a lot of people turning up at these protests with goggles on,” he told Tom Elliott on 3AW Mornings.

“They’re turning up for one reason – they have masks. And the reason they have them is because many of them are intending of being in conflict.”
