Richmond great Kevin Bartlett has explained why he thinks Port Adelaide midfielder Zak Butters was always going to be found guilty of verbally abusing umpire Nick Foot.

The tribunal fined Butters $1500 on Tuesday, finding it “implausible” that umpire Foot would have made up the comment that Butters allegedly made.

“I thought that we went overboard with this,” Bartlett said on Wide World of Sports.
