Football analyst Mick McGuane thinks Essendon appointing James Hird as their next head coach would be a “fantastic decision”.

The former Collingwood premiership player also admitted he wasn’t a fan of the Bombers being given list concessions.

“I think they’ve got to take some responsibility with the decisions they’ve made,” McGuane told Laura Spurway on Sports Today.

“I reached out to Hirdy the other day and wished him all the best,” he said when asked about Hird.

“I reckon it’s lost its soul at the moment Essendon.”
