New Western Bulldogs recruit James Harmes says while he still holds a soft spot for old club Melbourne, ultimately he believes it was the right call to move on.

Harmes was traded at the end of 2023 season, having battled injury and confidence issues throughout the year.

He’s told 3AW why he opted for a fresh start after nine years in the red and blue.

“(2023) was probably one of my most challenging years to date looking back on it,” he told Sam McClure on Wide World of Sports.

“I still love (Melbourne) and all those boys, but I thought it was right for me to get a fresh start.”
