Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has spoken on why he is on board for a new Tasmanian team for the AFL.

It comes as the federal government announced $240 million in funding for a new stadium in Hobart, with the Prime Minister confident a deal on a new club will be finalised sooner rather than later.

“The AFL should announce I’m very confident a 19th team, and that team licence will be given to Tasmania,” Prime Minister Albanese said.
