Why ‘sentimental’ AFL rule needs to be rethought

Geelong Cats CEO Steve Hocking believes the time of AFL father-sons may be coming to an end.
Despite benefiting from some great players, such as Garry Ablett Junior, Tom Hawkins, and Matthew Scarlett, Hocking believes that the father-son rule cannot compromise elements like the AFL Draft.
“It is a really nice piece of the game and we’ve had a substantial amount of father-sons,” Hocking said on 3AW Football.

“It’s a sentimental thing, but the game is so professional we probably need to be thinking about the compromise it has on the draft.”
