Following news the state government will stop funding a major service which provides spiritual care to patients in palliative care, one organisation has expressed their disappointment with the decision.

The general manager of the Islamic Council, Zakaria Wahid, says the sudden cut in funding after so many years is a concerning.

“We’re very concerned that we’re not going to be able to execute any service delivery to all the people that requires it in the hospital, there are hundreds including children,” he told Neil Mitchell.

He also says, many organisations involved with Spiritual Health work with children who have no support or family.

“When you’re taking about a child who is an orphan, they don’t have even someone who can speak their language, how is this going to be catered for?” he said.
