Will St Kilda’s player investment payoff in 2026?

Leigh Matthews is sceptical that St Kilda’s big spending on marquee players can bear fruit in 2026.

Matthews believes the lack of money for the lesser players will prevent the Saints from being a dominant force.

“St Kilda are deciding that we’re gonna spend big on a handful of players,” Matthews said on 3AW Football.

“Tom De Koning is going to St Kilda on 1.7 million, he’s a million-dollar player maybe.

“It’s a huge investment in a few players, but usually if you’re gonna become a really good team in an era, you can’t do that.”
