World’s top online payment platform heads down under but Aussie consumers can’t use it
The world’s leading and online payment platform is coming to Australia, but it won’t be available to Australian consumers.
Alipay has over 600 million users in China and is responsible for more than half of the nation’s payments market.
The company wants to expand into Australia, but won’t be offering it to Aussie shoppers.
Instead, it’s being presented to Australian merchants, so businesses can tap into affluent tourists.
Alipay Country Manager for Australia and New Zealand George Lawson joins Ross Greenwood.
“From a customer perspective it’s not available but from a merchant’s perspective, absolutely.
“What we’re looking at doing is connecting merchants in Australia with Chinese consumers and we do that through our platform.”
10,000 Australian businesses are already on board, including Chemist Warehouse and the Harbour Bridge Climb.
