Footy commentator responds to reports of Channel 10 AFL bid

A man who’d likely be front and centre should Channel 10 regain the AFL television broadcast rights admits he’s “very excited” by the prospect.

AFL boss Gillon McLachlan is currently in the United States, reportedly meeting with executives of Paramount Plus.

They share the same owners as Network 10.

3AW’s Sportsday program reported Channel 10 was shaping as a serious player in the bidding process.

Stephen Quartermain, a mainstay of the coverage when Channel 10 last had the rights, told 3AW he “wouldn’t have a clue” whether that was the case, but he hopes it’s true.

“Even the fact we are in with a sniff … everyone at Ten was up and about this week,” he told Dee Dee Dunleavy.

“If it happened, it’d be absolutely magnificent.

“I think it’s a good time for a change.”
