Neil Mitchell says fans deserve to know whether the MCG is a fire risk, or not

Neil Mitchell says the public must be told whether the MCG is a fire risk, or not.

It comes after the much-hyped fireworks display, planned for Wednesday night’s season-opener, was canned at the last minute.

The Age reports Fire Rescue Victoria raised concerns about the potential fire risk because of the flammable cladding that covers part of the stadium’s Northern Stand.

Neil Mitchell first raised that issue in November, 2019.

“They patted me on the head and told me to go away,” he said on Friday.

“Suddenly the issue is serious enough to stop a fireworks display?”

Neil Mitchell said something didn’t add up and it needed to be addressed, and now.

“If it is all as safe as the government says, then why did the fire authorities ban the fireworks on Wednesday night? Somebody has got to answer that,” he said.
