Richo throws his left-field theory at John Worsfold

Essendon coach John Worsfold says it’s unlikely his players got into “holiday mode” before Saturday night’s loss to Fremantle.

But he said Matthew Richardson’s left-field theory was plausible in some instances.

Richo floated his theory on 3AW Football at the weekend, suggesting the Eagles and Dockers had an advantage over visiting teams staying at hotels.

“You’ve got the swimming pool there … there’s people having pina coladas. I swear you get into travel mode!” the Tiger great said of the Bombers’ sluggish performance.

He asked Worsfold about it on Wednesday.

“There’s always that risk on the road … but they really didn’t have a lot of downtime (at the hotel) so I wouldn’t have thought we could use that as an excuse,” Worsfold said on Sportsday.

“But there are a lot of factors week to week to take into account.”
