School children rescued from burning boat on Port Phillip Bay

School children on a geography excursion have been pulled off a burning boat on Port Phillip Bay in a dramatic incident on Thursday morning.

Students from a high school were onboard as the drama unfolded and caller Dianne told Tom Elliott what she saw unfold.

“The boat was on fire,” she told 3AW.

“It looks like there’s about 30 children who have life jackets.”

Police later confirmed they aren’t treating the fire as suspicious and said no one onboard were injured.
