‘Shell-shocked’: Tony Shaw not happy with goal umpire indecision
Goal umpires are “shell-shocked” and generally aren’t willing to back their on-field judgement at the moment, according to Tony Shaw.
Following last year’s high-profile goal umpire incident involving Adelaide’s Ben Keays, officials have shown a greater reliance on the score review to confirm decisions in 2024.
But Tony Shaw isn’t a fan of that process, saying the indecision was wrong.

“Goal umpires are just shell-shocked at the moment,” he said on 3AW Football.
“They just do not want to make a decision that is shown to be wrong, because they know it’ll impact whether they’ll be able to get a game.”
