Tom Elliott has slammed the AFL for double standards on the ongoing community debate on violence against women.

There will be a moment of silence before each game in Round 8 to bring awareness to the gender-based violence.

But if the AFL allows Tarryn Thomas – who was recently handed a 18-week ban and sacked from North Melbourne for inappropriate behaviour towards women – Tom believes it will highlight the league’s double standards on social issues.

“You can’t have it both ways,” he said on 3AW.

“You can’t have this big statement about domestic violence and then welcome back a player who’s been found guilty of conduct relating to domestic violence.”
