Why Wayne Gatt was surprised police were called to investigate John Setka’s recent behaviour
Secretary of the Victorian Police Association Wayne Gatt has admitted he was surprised police officers were called in by the state government to investigate former CFMEU boss John Setka’s recent behaviour.
Setka crashed a second government site in as many days, and Gatt has been left frustrated at the priorities being put on police officers.
“I’m sure your listeners would have priorities for their police, and I’m sure it’s not chasing John Setka down,” Gatt told Jacqui Felgate on 3AW Drive.

A key talking point in the interview was the industrial action being taken, with the ongoing battle for better pay conditions in the police force.
A deal was almost secured in May this year, which would’ve seen a 16 per cent pay rise over four years and the introduction of nine hour shifts, but the deal was rejected by union members, sending the parties back to the negotiating table.
“It’s always tense when you’ve got industrial action happening,” Gatt said.
